The First Week of My Twenty-Sixth Year
The first week of my twenty-sixth year has been remarkably like the other weeks of this year.
The man who sits in the cube behind me is still sniffling disgustingly, but thankfully he is out today. The girl who is also sick is also out today, which means not hearing her hock up stuff and spit it into the trash can. Definitely a bonus.
Things at work have been slow for me because my newsletter was printed. It kind of freaks me out, but this is the second month in a row that it has happened, so I guess it's normal.
I'm really proud of the newsletter. I wrote seven of the articles, one which will be published in our corporate magazine, so that's exciting. I had a performance review that was encouraging.
Pete and I have been talking a lot about our future with kids this week. Now that I'm 26, it seems wayyy closer than it did before. Like too close. I wonder if a switch is going to go off in my head when I'm ready, because all I know is that right now I am definitely not ready. Do you just wake up one day and say, "Hey! It's time to have kids!"?
And much to both of our surprise, we only have $332 to pay off on one of our credit cards! Major accomplishment. Now we only have another $22k to go and life will be just dandy. 😉
Yes, pretty much. We woke up one day shortly after New Year’s 2008 and said, “if we don’t do it now, it’s not going to happen for a long time.” And boy am I glad we did it now. Even though it’s tough and we have a lot of challenges, having our little guy is the best ever. He makes getting through those challenges worth it.
Oh, and one more thing… you’re never “ready.” If you waited until you thought you were “ready” and all your bills were paid off and you had $20k savings in the bank and two paid off cars… you’d be getting pregnant at 50. Or NEVER. So, my advice is that if you have a decent job, decent insurance, and feel like it’s something you want to do, go for it. By the time your baby comes, you’ll be ready.
