Happy Veteran’s Day and Happy Birthday KK :)

In a perfect world, where being able to prepublish posts did not cost $6.95 a month (rather than the $3.96 that I pay for my blog), this would have posted yesterday. But I don't pay that, so I'm posting one day late.

Happy Veteran's Day! My grandfather was a bombarier in both Korea and WWII, and my cousin Jayson was in the Army, and Michael was in the Navy. Other current military cousins include: Kale and Reed (Coast Guard), Bobby (Army), and Justin (Marines). I don't know when we became such a military family, but I do know that most of my boy cousins didn't make it to our wedding because of it. They get a pass for serving our country. 😉

Papa never talked about the war much at all. There was only one story he told, about flying a plane when it was so dark that they couldn't where the sky ended and the ocean began. They ended up finding out that they were only flying 6 feet above the water. My Aunt Kitty said that when he came home, she remembers him waking up screaming. That they didn't know what PTSD was back then, and that he probably had it. He would be up at all hours, listening to music, probably trying not to sleep so he wouldn't have nightmares. That was when he took up golf, and became and amazing golfer, going on to play in the amateur tour.

He saw it as his duty, I guess, because a few weeks ago I found out that he never filed for benefits as a veteran.

Here he is in his uniform.

And here he is in Havana with his crew.

Veteran's day is also my sister's birthday. Happy 23rd, KK! You're an old lady now. 🙂

My earliest memory of Kyndra has nothing to do with her, and was probably constructed in my own imagination. I remember two of my dad's friends staying with me while they were in the hospital, and I thought they looked like cave people. I don't think that it really happened, but that's what my three year old mind decided to keep for a memory. Kyndra is an amazing girl, and is going to Africa and applying to teach in Korea right after that. While she does the applying I check out the programs to make sure she won't get kidnapped. I need her around! I LOVE YOU! 🙂
