Julian Ray Arnold
ARNOLD, JULIAN RAY, was born, loved and became the loving son of Jefferson Ray and Eva Lee Dowling Arnold on August 30, 1924 at their summer home in Hendersonville, NC. Growing up in Groveland, FL, he attended and graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL receiving a degree in Business. While there he was the recipient of the College Medal of Honor for saving the life of a drowning student. Julian, while serving in the US Air Force (seeing action in the Pacific) during World War II and the Korean conflict, also received numerous honors and awards, among them, the Air Force Air Medal and the USAF Distinguished Flying Cross. Following the wars, he settled in Miami, Fl purchasing a cellophane converting plant opening the door to the flexible packaging industry. Together with life long friend, George W. Turner, they developed and patented the process and equipment for color printed double laminated packaging for the snack food industry. He served on the board of the Gene Williams Evangelistic Association from 1976 – 1982 and as a trustee of the Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville, FL 1982 – 1983. A deacon and longtime member of Wayside Baptist Church, his Christian faith marked his every action. Julian found JESUS CHRIST – a loving reality, the BIBLE – the touchstone of explanation to the meaning of life and a PRESCRIPTION for human conduct. As an extension of his faith, he supported many ministries as an avenue through which those with special needs could best appreciate the richness of creation and the fruits of Christian practice. He not only believed – but lived his life – that the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy HIM forever! Through our sorrow at his absence, we can rejoice in the life in which he now continues – that of Jesus Christ, his Savior and Lord. A cherished father, devoted husband, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend, mentor and a true servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, a humble man of integrity, went to be with his Savior on Friday, July 15, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Robbie, of 51 years; son, Julian Ray Arnold Jr. (Susan); daughters, Valarie Strong (John H.), Eva Lee Louthan (Edwin); grandchildren, Jayson (Nikki), Lindsay, Lyanna, Deryck, Kristen Finch (Randy), Kyndra, Daniel, Robert, Justin; great grandson, Justin; brother, Charles E. Arnold, and sisters, Lucille Schultz, Kitty Herzog (Don), many nieces and nephews, extended family, Brooke, Shannon and Elizabeth McKinney and a multitude of devoted friends which include the George W. Turner, Elwood Johnson and Jimmy Killingsworth families. He was preceded in death by his daughter and grandson, Andrea and Jonathan McKinney, parents, J. Ray and Eva Lee Dowling Arnold, brother, Jeff and sister, Frances Cole. A “Celebration of his Life” service will be held at Wayside Baptist Church, 7701 S.W. 98 St., Miami, FL on Saturday morning, July 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside service will be conducted Sunday, July 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests your remembrance be directed in his memory to the Special Ministries Division at Wayside Baptist Church.
