Toronto and Other Stories

Toronto was lots of fun, but I’m ready for a vacation from my vacation! Getting there was a pain in the ass, but coming back was easy since I didn’t have to switch airlines.

Peter and I stayed in the Sheraton Centre Toronto, which was a big step up from the Fairmont that they had me in for work. Mostly because the room was more modern, and the water that came out of the faucet wasn’t yellow when you first turned it on.

We had a few adventures, most of which included walking half way around the city.

Two favorites:

1. I had booked a tour to Niagara Falls on some website that was the first one that came up on Google. It was half as cheap as the other ones (some places were charging $150 pp!) so I reserved our spaces. On Thursday morning, we got up and waited in the cold for the driver to show up. The man I spoke with on the phone was really rude, so I told Pete that if the car was sketchy, we weren’t going. We would just run away back in the hotel.  The man told us to look for a white Lincoln Towncar. I started to get worried when the only car that pulled up to the hotel was a ghetto white Buick Cutlass from the 1980’s. We waited 15 minutes, realized that was the car that had been sent with us, and promptly ran into the hotel to make other plans for the day (which included Richtree, which is wonderful by the way).

2. On the last night, we decided to go have dinner in Little Italy. Being the brilliant tour guide that I am, I looked at the map and figured that it couldn’t be that far from our hotel. I put on a pair of heels, and we started walking. By the time we got to College Street (the direct route to Little Italy), I noticed that the building numbers were somewhere in the 100s. The restaurant we were going to was at 637 College Street, which means that it was REALLY far. By the time we got to the restaurant, Giovanna Trattoria, we were starving, and there was a 10 minute wait. The place was swamped. We finally got a table in a room that only had one server, and ended up waiting about 45 minutes for the food. We weren’t even hungry anymore. When the food came, Pete’s veal was more like hamburger, and my pasta thing (that isn’t listed on the website and looked like baked spaghetti) was disgusting. So we got it to go, and ended up giving it to a homeless man on a street corner. Which brings me to a question that Pete and I had a discussion about: he took the food, we told him we didn’t touch it, which we really didn’t (one-two bites cut off, at most), and he put it next to him. Now do you think that the homeless man would have eaten the food right there, or saved it for later? I would think he would have eaten it, but anyway.

Overall, it was a good time, but our honeymoon will be spent somewhere all inclusive, because as much fun as I had wandering around the city, I don’t want to get home exhausted at the end of what is supposed to be a relaxing time. Thank you, Toronto, for making me realize that all inclusive is the way to go!

We also went to Niagara-on-the-lake, which was gorgeous, did some wine tasting, and went to IKEA, which was amazing. I can’t wait for it to get here!!
