April 30th, 2002: mind the gap!! cuz if you don’t, your friend might push u and u’ll fall! ;-)
hey hey hey!
mass email number three has just begun!
poor lizbeth has had to deal with me in the mornings. last night we decided that we were going to get up at 9am. but at 9 the alarm went off, i said i was too cold to get up, and rolled over. (lizbeth says its like you’re waiting for it to get warm but its not going to get warm all day!) she proceeded to wake me up three more times, none of which i remember, so the next time i see her she had showered and stuff and i was like..what just happened here? i didn’t realize that i was so bad in the mornings…until i remembered that when barry would wake us up while we were here i was one of the last people in bed. typical linzy. i dunno how i’m going to make it to that 8am class next tuesday!
after a refreshing bowl of crispy nut, i realized that i had to go to the bathroom. one of the problems with staying here is the bathroom situation in the morning. we can’t use the downstairs bathroom (the one with the door that doesn’t lock..hehehe) because someone always cleans it for the cafe, so that means that we have to use henk and elmarie’s. but the toilet doesn’t flush! so instead of being practical and asking henk (who always seems somewhat preoccupied with things), liz and i walked to asda, where i got to use the bathroom. yaay problem solved. although lizbeth has been ragging on me about it all day.
and also, lizbeth decided to venture out today in this black sweater w/a hood. i kept asking her if she wanted to take my black jacket cuz its semiwater proof and it was really windy, but she said no, she’d be fine cuz it wasn’t that cold, the jacket was “well knit”. ha. u’ll hear about that later in the email.
so today we decided to go to the british museum, which is another HUGE place. we got to see mummies and greek stuff and roman stuff and celtic stuff and the rosetta stone and all sorts of neat things. we saw this body that had been sacrificed to the gods by druids. and of course you can’t forget all the statues that the romans and greeks did. we spent half the day there, it was cool. afterwards we found a starbucks (they even have them in london!) and stopped to get hot chocolate cuz it was wet/cold/windy outside.
i decided that we should go to a different tube station that was closer (liz says it wasn’t, i think it was the same distance and its fun having adventures and getting lost). so as we’re walking, elizabeth says the two most important words she’s said all trip: “i’m cold!” hahahaha told her so! (she says its misrepresentation but i think she should have just taken the black jacket) hahA!
i’ve also realized two things: one is that i walk very slow. i had forgotten how slow i really do walk — lizbeth would be like a little bit ahead of me and i’d be like, “slow down, i can’t walk that fast!” i guess its the “walking from the knees” thing, which everyone makes fun of me about but whatever. ask me and i’ll show u the ten steps thing. in london before, i was always in the back of our group when we were walking down the street. also, have you ever seen that far side comic where it shows a sign that says “school for the gifted”, and there’s a kid leaning into a door that says pull, because you have to pull it in order to open the door? that kid is me. i must have pushed every door that says pull. not only did i push every door that says pull, i would push the SAME DOOR multiple times (and then pull it when we had to leave the store or whatever, and i was supposed to be pushing. and they all had signs!). i so don’t know whats wrong with me. i can’t walk fast and i can’t open a door. good thing someone is here to look after me, sometimes i just don’t know what to do with myself!
we came back after the museum and hung out at the cafe. its cool, andrea and rachel are so cute. andrea is 6 now, rachel is 5. neither of them remember us being here, but i guess that they remember me because of thomas. i played foosball with lizbeth and this really cute little kid named edward, and they killed me. hey guys, the foosball table is the same, but they put plastic over it so no one steals the ball. its not as fun cuz the ball doesn’t jump out of the table anymore. but its all good. at 7pm they have a public Bible reading, so we were here for that. then liz and i went to asda to buy food for dinner….hamburgers! woohoo! yaay for american food. they came out pretty good and henk liked them. we met a guy named bill, who is an american missionary that just moved here a few weeks ago to plant a church here at the Centre. so thats something really cool thats going on here. and bill is pretty cool, i think he was happy to see some american people and eat some hamburgers. hehe he was going to tell his kids so that they’d be jealous. it was also good because we were able to sit down and talk to henk. he asked about everybody. we also saw pictures of their trip to bangladesh, which were really interesting. henk never ceases to amaze me. how is it that we were lucky enough to meet henk and elmarie, the two coolest people in london?
tomorrow we’re going to trafalgar square, parliament, westminster abbey, etc. everything around there. it’ll be a fun day. lotsa pics and video–i haven’t even started with the video stuff yet. thomas is taking us out to dinner — at chili’s! he’s so cool. he hung around with us while we made dinner in the kitchen, and then afterwards. i’m glad that we’ve had the chance to actually see him again.
so i’ve decided i’m obssessed with london once again! lizbeth too. henk said that she should come here and work for a year — how jealous would you guys be? i would be really jealous, i already told her she can’t talk about it anymore! hehe. it was henk’s suggestion, so that was cool. i told her we’d have to come visit.
thats about it for now, nothing outrageously funny happened today.

“do you know what the world can be? i wish that you were here with me to see what words cannot describe, sincerely me, so long, good bye!” –postcards home, unsung zeros
I don’t blame you, it was super cold. I remember not wanting to change for bed because my clothes were all warm and then I would just lie there until my body heat started spreading to the blankets.
Do you have the video footage? That would be awesome to watch!
